Our tDCS home-therapy program is designed to provide treatment directly to patients who cannot physically or psychologically present to an office setting. Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) is non-invasive stimulation therapy of the brain fot patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Cognitive Decline.
A non-invasive method of neuromodulation, uses low direct current delivered via electrodes on the head.Designed to aid individuals with brain injuries or neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders such as major depressive disorder and Alzheimer's disease.
Our tDCS sessions, which are tailored to your individual needs and therapeutic goals. Each tDCS treatment session takes place in the patient's home and is supervised by Dr. Thuy T. Nguyen, MD.
During the session you wear a comfortable headset fitted with electrodes that rest on your scalp. A low-grade electric current flows through the electrodes while you engage in a therapeutic activity designed to treat your condition. Each at-home session typically lasts 30 minutes. We generally recommend a minimum of 2-3 weekly sessions to evaluate if you are experiencing benefits.
Through the application of sponge electrodes positioned on various scalp regions, a consistent, low-level electrical current is administered to the brain. Configuring the position of the electrodes allows for a custom treatment for various conditions.
The simultaneous delivery of tDCS with cognitive training is selected to enhance synaptic activity as compared to tDCS therapy alone. Various research studies have suggested that the long-term effects of tDCS are due to the enhancement of neural plasticity by modulating long- term potentiation and depression in neural networks. This combined approach is still a novel therapy that may have varying results based on the patient’s conditions and treatment regimens.
